Which version should I play today?
For a first visit, play Suikoden and Suikoden II in the March 6, 2025 HD remaster, then stop. III, IV, and V do not have a current remaster confirmed for this guide. If you want the in-world chronology instead, start much earlier, with IV.
Suikoden STAR LEAP is a new story in the same history, set in Solar Year 453. It launched on phones in Japan on August 7, 2026. The Steam page checked for this guide still listed the PC release as unannounced, so it is not the way to start.
This list is the order the stories first shipped. The HD remaster is a new edition of I and II, not a new story, so it is not a separate row.

Konami's series history uses Solar Years. The order below follows those years for the shared setting. Gensopedia's compiled timeline, drawn from series publications, matches it: IV, Tactics, V, then STAR LEAP, then I, II, and III.

Only if you specifically want chronology. IV is a prequel, and it plays like a later, more divisive entry. The HD remaster of I and then II is the better introduction. You can slot IV, Tactics, and V in afterward.
Yes. Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, released March 6, 2025, is the current edition. A Switch 2 release followed on June 5, 2025. Play I before II inside the collection.
No. Suikoden Tierkreis and Genso Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki are separate settings. They are listed so you do not file them into the Solar Year order by mistake.
Konami's own introduction places it in Solar Year 453, in a lakeside village east of the Scarlet Moon Empire, which is before Suikoden I. It is a side story in that history, not a replacement for III.
Not one this guide could confirm as of October 29, 2026. Those games, plus Tactics, are treated here as PlayStation 2 releases. Check current stores before assuming a digital copy is still sold.
