Is there one Tales of timeline?
No. Most mothership games are separate worlds that happen to share a combat style and a naming scheme. The connected sets are Destiny, Symphonia with Phantasia, Xillia, and Berseria with Zestiria.

Series guide · 1995–2026
Most mothership Tales games are separate worlds. A few come in pairs, and those pairs are the only story order that matters.
Which version should I play today?
There is no single Tales timeline. Pick a recent, widely sold game and play that. Good current editions are Tales of Arise, Tales of Berseria Remastered (February 27, 2026), Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, and Tales of Graces f Remastered.
Only play in a set when the games share a world: Destiny then Destiny 2, Xillia then Xillia 2, and Berseria before Zestiria if you want chronology. Symphonia is a distant prequel to Phantasia, but either one stands alone.
Mothership titles in first-release order. Spin-offs such as the Radiant Mythology games and Tales of the Tempest are left off. Remasters are the play-today note, not extra rows.
English release was the Game Boy Advance version. No current remaster confirmed.
English PlayStation original. The PlayStation 2 remake stayed in Japan.
Called Tales of Destiny II in North America. Play the 2026 remaster.
Direct sequel to Destiny. No official English release confirmed.
Play the 2023 remaster.
No official English release confirmed.
No official English release confirmed.
Play Definitive Edition.
The English release is Hearts R on PlayStation Vita.
Play Graces f Remastered.
Play the 2025 remaster.
PlayStation 3. Remaster not confirmed as released.
Play the 2026 remaster. Story is a distant prequel to Zestiria.
Treat each block as its own world. Standalone games can be played in any order, including the release list above.
A direct sequel pair. Destiny 2 has no confirmed official English script.
Symphonia is set in the distant past of Phantasia's world. The gap is long enough that either game works first. Dawn of the New World is a direct sequel to Symphonia and is not a separate mothership title.
Then Dawn of the New World if you want the sequel.
Play after Xillia.
Berseria is the earlier story. Release order was Zestiria first. Either order is understandable. Chronology is Berseria, then Zestiria.
No required partner. Arise's Beyond the Dawn expansion is a coda to Arise, not a new series entry.
Beyond the Dawn is story DLC set after the ending.

No. Most mothership games are separate worlds that happen to share a combat style and a naming scheme. The connected sets are Destiny, Symphonia with Phantasia, Xillia, and Berseria with Zestiria.
Berseria is the earlier story and now has a 2026 remaster, so it is the better first buy. Zestiria came out first and does not require Berseria. If you play both, Berseria then Zestiria matches the fiction.
As of October 2026: Symphonia Remastered, Vesperia Definitive Edition, Graces f Remastered, Xillia Remastered, Berseria Remastered, and Eternia Remastered. Phantasia, Destiny 2, Rebirth, Legendia, Abyss, Innocence, Hearts, Xillia 2, and Zestiria were not confirmed as new remasters here.
This guide could not confirm an official English release for Tales of Destiny 2, Tales of Rebirth, or Tales of Innocence. Eternia's North American name, Tales of Destiny II, is a different game from Destiny 2.
Not by October 29, 2026. Series producer Yusuke Tomizawa has said a new entry is in development and has not shared a title or date. The 2025–2026 releases have been remasters.
