All series / Trails
Kiseki · 2004–2026
One continuous story across Liberl, Crossbell, Erebonia, and Calvard. Release order is the safe story order.
Which version should I play today?
Start with the modern remakes of the first two Sky games, then the original Sky the 3rd, and keep going in release order. The story is one long chain. Later arcs assume you know the earlier ones.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter (2025) and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter (September 17, 2026) replace the 2004 and 2006 PC games for a first playthrough. Clear data can carry from the first remake into the second. Sky the 3rd does not have a remake yet, so play the PC version next.
First-release years below are the Japanese debuts. English releases often came years later. Remakes are not extra stories. They are named in the play-today column.
Play the 2026 remake.
The in-world calendar overlaps. Trails from Zero and the first Cold Steel game share a year, and Trails to Azure overlaps Cold Steel II. Interleaving those pairs spoils both arcs. The story order that protects the reveals is the same as release order.
Overlaps Cold Steel II. Play it before Cold Steel II.
Follows both Crossbell and Erebonia.
Years are the first release. The play-today column is the version to look for now. Store listings change, so treat the Amazon link as a search, not a stock promise.

Play Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and 2nd Chapter. They are full remakes of the first two games, and a finished save from the first can carry bonuses into the second. Sky the 3rd is still the original PC release.
Yes. Zero shares a year with Cold Steel I, and Azure overlaps Cold Steel II. Play Zero and Azure before those Cold Steel games anyway. Switching between them early spoils both stories.
No. The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is a spin-off outside the main Zemuria arc. Ys vs. Trails in the Sky is a crossover fighter. Neither is required between the numbered Trails games.
Not as of October 29, 2026. After the two Sky remakes, play the original Trails in the Sky the 3rd on PC, then Trails from Zero.
You can follow a later arc's local plot, but the series is written as one history. Horizon, released in the West on January 15, 2026, is the thirteenth main game. Start at Sky.
