Is there a Wild Arms story order?
No single chronology was confirmed. The games share a world name, Filgaia, and a set of ideas, then start over with a new cast. Release order is the order to follow if you want to watch the series change.

Series guide · 1996–2007
Western-fantasy RPGs that reuse the name Filgaia. They are not one chronology. Release order is the order.
Which version should I play today?
Play them in release order, and do not hunt for a secret chronology. Each numbered game is a new story on a Filgaia that does not pick up the last party's save. Wild Arms Alter Code: F is an enhanced remake of the first game, not a fourth adventure.
Wild Arms, Wild Arms 2, Wild Arms 3, and Wild Arms 4 can be bought as digital PlayStation ports of the originals. Alter Code: F, Wild Arms 5, and Wild Arms XF were not confirmed on a current storefront for this guide.
The games in the order Media.Vision shipped them. Alter Code: F sits in 2003 because that is when the remake came out. It retells 1996.
There is no confirmed single timeline. The series keeps returning to a desert world called Filgaia, with similar tools and monsters, and then tells a new story. Alter Code: F is the same story as the first game. The list below is release order again, with that remake set beside the original instead of after Wild Arms 3.
Original.
Same plot, expanded, on PlayStation 2. Play one of these, not both, unless you want the comparison.
New casts. Not direct sequels.
Years are the first release. The play-today column is the version to look for now. Store listings change, so treat the Amazon link as a search, not a stock promise.

Play one. The original is the 1996 game, now also sold as a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 digital port. Alter Code: F is the 2003 PlayStation 2 remake with a larger script and new puzzles. You do not need both to understand later games, because later games are not sequels.
Wild Arms and Wild Arms 2 were reported on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2025. Wild Arms 3 has been digital on PlayStation 4 since 2016. Wild Arms 4 joined PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in April 2026. Those are original-game ports.
A 2007 PlayStation Portable tactical RPG. It is part of the series and easy to leave until after the numbered games, or to skip if you do not want a grid-based battle system.
It was a later mobile game. This guide did not confirm that the service is still running, so it is not listed as a way to play the series.
