All series / Xeno series
Xenogears, Xenosaga, Xenoblade · 1998–2025
Three related names, three separate canons. Only the numbered Xenoblade games need a play order.
Which version should I play today?
Xenogears, the Xenosaga trilogy, and Xenoblade are spiritual relatives, not one plot. They were published by different companies. Do not wait on Xenogears before playing Xenoblade, and do not expect Xenosaga to continue Xenogears' save file.
For Xenoblade, play Definitive Edition, then Xenoblade Chronicles 2, its Torna story, then Xenoblade Chronicles 3, then the Future Redeemed extra story. Xenoblade Chronicles X is a separate science-fiction game. Play the Definitive Edition, including the Switch 2 Edition if that is the console you have.
First releases only. Ports such as Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition are the versions named in the table, not extra stories.
Prequel story for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Play it after 2.
Extra story for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Play it last.
Each block is its own continuity. Inside Xenoblade, release order is the order that keeps the series' reveals intact. Torna is set before Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Future Connected is an epilogue inside Definitive Edition. Future Redeemed visits earlier years and is still meant to be played after Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
One game. Square Enix holds it. It is not a confirmed prologue to the other two series.
Play the three episodes in order. Bandai Namco holds this trilogy.
Recommended play order, which is also release order. Nintendo and Monolith Soft's numbered trilogy shares a continuity.
Definitive Edition includes Future Connected after the main story.
Set before Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Playing it first spoils 2.
Play after Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
A separate story on the planet Mira. It is not a chapter between the numbered games.
Years are the first release. The play-today column is the version to look for now. Store listings change, so treat the Amazon link as a search, not a stock promise.

No. They share staff, themes, and a naming habit. Xenogears is a Square Enix game, Xenosaga is a Bandai Namco trilogy, and Xenoblade is a Nintendo series. This guide does not treat them as a single timeline.
Definitive Edition, including Future Connected, then Xenoblade Chronicles 2, then Torna, then Xenoblade Chronicles 3, then Future Redeemed. That is release order, and it is the order that avoids spoiling later reveals.
Beside the numbered games, not between them. It is a standalone science-fiction story. The version to play is the Definitive Edition from March 20, 2025, or the Switch 2 Edition from February 20, 2026.
Torna is set before Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but play it after 2. Future Redeemed looks backward and is still the last thing to open, after Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
This guide could not confirm a remaster. Episodes I, II, and III are PlayStation 2 games. Xenogears is the original PlayStation game, also without a confirmed remaster.
